EMV Chip Card
Mars Bank supports the EMV Chip Card. It is more secure than swiping. Be sure to ask retailers you visit to install EMV card readers to give you the best security option when using your Mars Bank debit card.
Here’s all you need to know about transitioning to the new technology in your Mars Bank Debit Card.
Why a chip card?
For added safety and security. You’ve heard or read about data breaches at major retailers. The EMV Chip Card adds security to protect your data. While the card still has the magnetic stripe for swiping the card at retailers without Chip Card readers, the Chip Card uses a terminal in which you insert the card – the inserted Chip Card is more secure.
What do I need to do?
All Mars Bank customers are issued EMV Chip Cards.
How does it work?
- Insert the Chip Card – The big difference is instead of sliding the card when making a purchase, the card is inserted into the card terminal. The insert slot is usually in the front of the terminal.
- Leave the Card in the Terminal – The card stays in the terminal for the whole transaction. The terminal will prompt you if you need to enter your PIN.
- Remove the Card – The terminal will prompt you when the transaction is approved and you can remove the chip card.
Everything else works the same – online purchases or other methods of using the card work exactly the same as before.
